Installation/Prep

Preparing the Surface

1. Remove all furnishing and window treatments and hardware from the room. Turn off power to switches and outlets. Remove switch plates and outlet coverings. Cover openings with masking tape

2. Put down drop cloths. if there is previous wallpaper , remove carefully. See Removal for further instructions.

3. Wash walls to remove grease and dirt. Walls should be clean and smooth, free of mildew, grease and stains

4. Patch any cracks and holes with spackle and sand smooth.

5. Prime walls. If surface is glossy, sand walls, wash and then prime.

Installation on Side walls

1. Fill your wallpaper trough/tray with warm water.

2. To ensure that you hang your wallpaper straight draw a vertical guideline (plumb line). It is best to put this near a corner

TIP if you have a Plumb bob or chalk line this will work well also

3. Measure the wall from ceiling to baseboard top, then measure a strip of paper from the roll of the same length.

4. Mark the length and cut using a sharp knife or scissors.

TIP use a ruler to mark a straight line across the paper to ensure it is level

5. Roll the strip of paper in reverse; if you have rolled it correctly the pasted side will be out.

6. Follow the direction printed on the label for soaking instructions or submerse the rolled strip into the wallpaper trough completely covering it with warm water, allow to soak for approximately 1-2 min.

7. Slowly draw out the soaked strip.

8. "Book" the strip by folding the ends towards the center - paste side to paste side.

9. Apply the first strip with its edge against your vertical guideline.

10. Smooth each strip with a smoother or sponge.

11.  Apply remaining strips in the same manner.

TIP Clean as you go - with sponge and clean water

12. Paper over doors and windows - cut excess with scissors.

Cut diagonally through the waste portion towards the corner of the door or window

TIP wait for paper to dry for approximately at least 1-2 hours before trimming, this will lessen the chance of tearing.

13. Trim the excess with guide and knife.

14. Trim excess at top and bottom with metal edge and knife.

15. Make sure that power to switches and outlets are off - paper over them - then cut paper clear of wires and fixture box.

Start by making a small slit in the paper at the center of the outlet, cut diagonally towards the corners, then carefully trim around the outlet so that when you replace the cover plate no cut edges will be visible

Installing Borders Over Vinyl

1.  Apply vinyl-to-vinyl adhesive to wall covering.

2.  Overlap border until pattern matches.

3.  Cut through both pieces for seamless match.

4.  Apply border and smooth it as you would wallpaper.

Installing Borders

1. If you are not bordering against a moulding or the ceiling, use a level to draw a guideline

2. "Accordion fold" the pasted border, paste to paste, to make it easy to handle. Apply and smooth with a sponge or wedge.

TIP if you still find the 15 foot strip too long to work with, simply cut it shorter and match on the wall.

3. To join strips in the middle of a wall, overlap the two strips until the pattern matches. Double-cut a seam by cutting through both layers with a razor knife. Pull back the top layer and remove both of the cut ends. Smooth the border flat.
