Removal instructions for wallpapered surfaces
1. Turn off power to switches and outlets.
2. Lift a corner of the old wall covering, and peel it gently.
If it is "strippable" it come off the wall in large pieces.
If it is "peelable", it will peel easily and leave a thin paper layer on the wall
Wet the edges with a sponge to peel more easily.
If it's not strippable, you'll need to soak the old paper and scrape it off.
3. Mix a solution of wallpaper remover (follow manufacturer's instructions)
TIP Fabric softener and warm water works well as an alternative.
TIP Mix the solution into a spray bottle for easier application.
4. Wet paper as directed or with a sponge. Work on a small section at a time.
5. Wait for solution to work.
TIP Open a window, depending on the removal product you may find it smelly
6. Scrape wallpaper off starting at the seams, using a putty knife.
You may have to soak and peel the outer layer first and then soak and scrape the second (paper) layer.
Step 5
Once all paper has been removed, rewet surface with solution and make sure all the paste is removed, leaving surface clean and smooth.
Let wall dry completely.
Step 6
Patch any holes or cracks and sandpaper smooth.
Walls are ready for priming and applying new wallpaper.
7. Once all paper has been removed, re-wet surface with solution and make sure all the paste is removed, leaving surface clean and smooth.
8. Let wall dry completely.
9. Patch any holes or cracks and sandpaper smooth.
10. Walls are ready for priming, painting or applying new wallpaper.
